Canada - Florida Smart Cities Roadshow

Start: Monday, February 17, 2020

End: Thursday, February 20, 2020

Roadshow Overview

The Consulate General of Canada in Miami is pleased to invite you to a dynamic Canada-Florida Smart Cities Roadshow. This three-day programme in Tampa, Miami, and Orlando will showcase Canadian smart cities technologies in four key areas:

Water, Energy, Transportation/Infrastructure and Data Analytics/Public Safety

Selected applicants will gain the opportunity to both:

·        Present their company/technology to the Floridian state, county and city government officials, as well as private organisations such as: water and power utilities, utility wholesalers and retailers, engineering firms, and industry related consultants.

·        Network and meet with organisations and governments through events, roundtable discussions

We will be working in partnership with the following governments and organisations, who are helping pave the way in smart city technology development: Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and the provinces of Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia.

Why Florida?

Miami

·        100 resilient cities network - provides a channel for which multiple governments collaborate to develop a collective voice that will, together, allow parties to plan, prepare, and respond to communities’ challenges

·        Florida is acutely aware of the environmental, social, and economic challenges it faces allowing for greater realisation in the need for change, and smart city planning.

Tampa

·        The emerging mega-region maintains a unique advantage in interconnectedness through the I-4 corridor – which provides a rand of transportation modes (surface, air, rail, and water)

·        With the state offering some of the friendliest regulatory environments in the U.S. for automated vehicles (AVs), the Hillsborough County Expressway Authority (THEA) Connected Vehicle (CV) Pilot Deployment in Tampa is paving the way for smart-road infrastructure for the future

Orlando

·       Awarded two Smart Cities awards, and is currently seeking funding on a variety of smart city projects

·        They are in the process of developing a data-driven infrastructure that will support safer, cleaner, and more efficient travel

·        The city has made significant efforts in increasing mobility for all residents, increasing affordable clean energy access, and easing access to information on crime, as just a few examples
