Construction Lead (Hull/Major Equipment)

Construction Lead will assist in the planning of pre-construction activities and work closely with site supervision for Terra Nova’s Life Extension Turnaround (LET) dry dock construction. Responsibilities of this position include: 

• Assist yard personnel with constructability reviews; • Ensure work is being planned and carried out safely with special attention to hull modifications, rigging activities, heavy lifts and major equipment installation: • Liaise with site supervision and provide progress updates; • Support the preparation of various construction reports as required by the LET Construction Manager; • Proactively identify, address, and resolve issues/problems and assist in the development of recovery plans where required; • Provide direction to Suncor field supervisors and field engineers. 

The following skills/experience are required for this assignment:  

• 20+ years construction experience in oil and gas industry including supervisory roles; • Structural/marine/dry dock construction experience • Detailed knowledge of Terra Nova FPSO systems and equipment would be an asset; • Hands on multi discipline construction knowledge;  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; • Ability to monitor progress and manage change orders to ensure project is delivered on time and on budget;  • Other related duties as required. 

This position will be based in Suncor’s St. John’s office and will require temporary assignment to a dry dock facility located in Spain in 2022.  The duration of this assignment is approximately 12 months.

Construction Manager

Construction Manager will coordinate pre-construction activities and dry dock construction activities for the Terra Nova Life Extension Turnaround (LET) planned to be executed in Spain in 2022. Responsibilities of this position include:

• Plan, organize and direct pre-construction activities;

• Assist with the preparation and management of project budgets;

• Manage dry dock construction contract including all administrative duties;

• Coordinate constructability reviews and contingency planning with contractors and LET team members;

• Review and critique construction schedules;

• Track project progress, variances and identify trends;

• Proactively identify, address, and resolve issues/problems and coordinate development of recovery plans where required;

• Work closely with project team members to identify, develop, implement, and support cost-effective project delivery.

The following skills/experience are required for this assignment:

• 20+ years construction management/coordination experience in oil and gas industry;

• Familiarity with the Terra Nova FPSO and experience in marine/dry dock construction would be an asset;

• Ability to liaise with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters relating to work procedures, productivity, conflict resolution, clash avoidance and construction problems;

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

• Ability to monitor progress and manage change orders to ensure project is delivered on time and on budget;

• Other related duties as required.
