Nominations 2020 Board of Directors

There are five (5) seats open for the 2020 Board of Directors:

  • 1 Oil & Gas Director
  • 1 Prince Edward Island Director
  • 1 New Brunswick Director
  • 2 Member at Large Directors

Nominations will open on October 21, 2019 at 9:00am and close on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. (all times are Atlantic).  Nominations after 4pm AST on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 cannot be accepted.

As per Section 7.2 of The Maritimes Energy Association bylaws the Nominations and Elections Committee has determined of the five open positions, one director shall be designated the OIl & Gas Director, one director shal be designated the Prince Edward Island Director, one director shal be designated the New Brunswick Director,and two shall be Members at Large Directors.

Every attempt shall be made to have the Board membership be a broad representation of energy sectors and geographic regions. There shall be six directors elected at large and the remaining to be elected by province and by industry sector, as determined by the composition of the existing membership, including offshore oil & gas, onshore oil & gas, tidal, wave, biofuels, wind, hydro, geothermal, renewables, and any other energy sector. (Bylaw Section 5.3)

Any Member, whose dues are current, is eligible to move or second the nomination of individuals who wish to run in the election. 

As per Bylaw Section 5.2, any Member shall be eligible to be elected as a Director except an employee as defined by:

(i) The Public Service Employment Act, 2003, c. 22; or

(ii) The Civil Service Act, RSNS, c. 70; or

(iii) Provincial legislation similar to either (i) or (ii).

As per Bylaw Section 5.6, any individual who allows his or her name to stand for election is expected, if elected, to volunteer considerable time to the business of the Association. A Director who fails to attend three (3) consecutive Board meetings without providing valid reason to the Secretary is deemed to have resigned and the remaining Board of Directors shall attend to the filling of the Director’s seat thereby vacated in accordance with the Association Bylaws.

Each potential candidate must be nominated and seconded by a different Association member in good standing (cannot come from the same member company). Please forward initial nomination and subsequent second in writing to Elections@MaritimesEnergy.com  before the deadline of Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. (AST).  It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that both the mover and seconder of the nomination have submitted the appropriate information within the deadline provided.

Please ensure it is indicated as to what position the nomination is for: Oil & Gas Director, New Brunswick Director, Prince Edward Island Director or Member at Large Director.

Nominations will be reviewed by the Nominations and Elections Committee before confirmation is sent via email to all those involved in the nomination process. This call for nominations is conducted in accordance with the association bylaws, found here.
