The third edition of the Ghana Extractive Industry Safety Conference and Trade Show www.ghanasafetyconference.org will take place in Takoradi on 12th-13th September. STCCI intends to facilitate the creation of a world-class corporate safety system in Ghana and is planning to develop a ‘Safety Council’ similar to the model adopted in Houston under the Houston Area Safety Council www.hasc.com to cover all extractive Industries.
The Conference acts as a platform to analyse current policies/practices in Ghana, learn from International examples of best practice etc whilst the Trade show offers the chance to promote products/services to a captive audience. This event will be suitable for all companies/organisations involved with ‘safety’ e.g. training institutions and training providers, products/services, HSE consultants etc. as well as Oil and Gas, and Mining Operators, Service Companies, and Financial Institutions.
In addition to the more general aspects of safety in the extractive industries, each year the conference has a key theme and in 2018 this is:
Dangerous Goods; Transport, Packaging, Storage and Handling procedure – Global Standards and Existing Practices in Ghana
The thematic areas are as follows:
• Transportation of Dangerous Goods
• Classification of Dangerous Goods and Environmentally Hazardous Substances
• Dangerous Goods Warehousing and Storage
• Dangerous Goods – Disaster Management Preparedness in Ghana
• Policy, Legal and Institutional Framework for Dangerous Goods Management in Ghana
• Global Approach in Handling Dangerous Goods
As a result this year’s event is also likely to be of significant interest to logistics companies that might be looking to expand into West Africa.
